new mexico: opal and yoga

I went on this trip with three amazing women, and I will write about each of them periodically, I know, but I wanted to pause here because I took a sequence of photographs of my friend Opal C McCarthy for her business, which is a really lovely collective of things, the heart of which is healing through the body and into the mind through yoga, body awareness, and writing.  She consults with people one-on-one and sometimes, if you're lucky enough, you can catch her leading a workshop or giving a class.  I adore her yoga classes that incorporate poetry (as well as art--she'll bring pastels and watercolor sometimes)--I've always felt so gently handled and so peaceful afterwards.

She led us in a session while we were on our retreat that actually caused me to have these beautiful visions; I don't fully remember them now, but I remember this purple and blue light during savasana.  And in the exercise, I welled up, so full of this strong, positive emotional charge was I, and then she read a poem about cupping a girl's face, and I just thought of my bear and how much I missed her.  And was able to write some lines I really loved.

And here are some photographs, one above, and the sequence below, that I took of her just beside the house we stayed in.  What a lovely thing to photograph:  yoga on a stone in a stream.
