Is it because I know summer is not long for this year that I've suddenly felt so desperate to visit all of our favorite outdoor haunts? Hay Creek is beloved in the winter too, just in a very different locale, given the whole frozen-creek situation. We also park in this divot of earth, which would be a nightmare in winter. Instead, we cruise to the standard entrance and march through the woods.
The kids delight in the water, in the splashing and crashing about. Maya's current obsession is finding wee critters to show us. Finn likes to whang against the surface of the water. We're not the quietest visitors in this place, but we do respect it. I am in awe over every living thing, every wild and native plant.
I wonder about everyone's secret spots, where they go to escape. Where to find wonder in this busy, busy world.
